This Japanese hand hoe is my tool of choice for heavy ground. It's useful for planting, weeding and preparing seed beds. Its not heavy but sturdy enough to break through tough clumps and rocky earth.

If you are on clay soil, once you have started to use this you will wonder why you gardened without it.  Indeed, im sure for those on perfect loam, you would love it too!
